Collection of Different Types of Guns Laid out on a Table

5 Gifts for the Gun Collector Who Has Everything

The holidays are coming, so now is the time to find gifts for gun collectors on your list who seem to have every tactical tool, gadget, or gun accessory on the market. Short of buying them another gun, these firearms aficionados can be hard to shop for. The Second Amendment community–by and large–is self-sufficient and opinionated. That means they know what they like, and they tend to pick it up for their kit. But Pennsylvania’s Largest Gun Show still has a few tricks up its sleeve you can use to find the perfect gift for the gun lover in your life.

But They Have Literally So Much!

Yeah, but there’s something out there that’s still missing. When hunting for gifts for gun collectors, your job is to figure out what it is (or one of the things missing, at any rate) before they do and decide to get it themselves. Their predilection for collecting gun gear and willingness to talk about it is a great way to start forming an idea of what might make a good gift.

Start by considering their gun collection, including the firearms, gun accessories, supplies, tools, equipment, and other accouterment. If you don’t really know everything they have, that’s fine. What you do know about can start to paint a picture of what kind of collection they have. For instance, do they seem to favor hunting guns or pistols for range work and competitions? Do they seem to have concealed carry holsters for every outfit, indicating a strong self-defense preference for their collection? What about all of the above?

You can also talk to them about their hobby to get information about their collecting intent and, in the process, get a hint from the gun-collecting gift recipient themselves. Not sure where to start? Ask them about a recent hunting trip, express an interest in learning more about firearms, or see if they read the latest news on prospective gun control legislation. That’ll get them talking! One of the best parts about finding the right gifts for gun collectors is the opportunity it gives you to see their passion for firearms and shooting and express your interest in their joy.

A Few Gift Ideas From Your PA Gun Show

Your local gun show is the perfect place to find gifts for gun collectors they don’t have and may already be looking for or that they don’t even know they need. We bring in vendors from across the state and beyond, craftspeople and Second Amendment organizations from area communities, and private gun owners who want to trade and sell guns and equipment from their collections–all under one roof in a comfortable exhibition space.

We’re going to highlight some of our favorite gifts for gun collectors who already seem to have it all, but there’s no way we could cover every collection type or the range of products and services you’ll find at your local gun show. These may be a good start, but they’re not the end of the potential gift list by any stretch.

  1. Magazines

Magazines are some of the top gun accessories people are looking for at our shows, and if you add in magazine accessories, like baseplates and extensions, mag gear may come second only to buying a gun as attendees’ motivation. In mathematical terms, every gun owner believes they need n+1 magazines, where n is the number they already have. (Who says you never use algebra in the real world?)

Extra magazines for their favorite gun can make range time more fun and efficient, requiring less frequent reloading. Extended magazines give the gun collector you’re buying for more firepower at their disposal. Base plates and extensions can add a little more length to the mags they already have, improving the shooter’s control.

You’ll need to know a few things about the gun you’re buying magazines for to make sure you’re getting compatible options. You may already know this information; it will be printed on the gun itself, or you can ask the recipient a few questions about their firearm under the guise of wanting to know more about their favorite gun. You’ll need to know the manufacturer and model as well as the caliber, for instance, a Glock G17 9mm.

  1. Range Bags and Boxes

You may have noticed that gun collections and the products that support them tend to grow over time as gun accessories and shooting supplies accumulate. While many of these items may be relegated to the safe, gun cabinet, or storage closet when not in use, the equipment a shooter takes on a range trip tends to start overflowing the pistol case or beginner range bag they may have started with.

Range bags come in a wide variety of sizes and materials. Look for ones that are meant to keep out water and withstand the oils, powder residues, and cleaning agents used on firearms. You also want plenty of compartments that are zippered or held shut with Velcro to keep gear from bouncing around and scratching finishes.

Dry boxes also make great gifts for gun collectors as they can be used for range trips or dry storage for ammunition. Many of these evolved from steel military-issue ammo cans or boxes. While they may still show their heritage, these newer versions feature strong, lightweight materials, better seals, and a host of improvements over their often-rusted counterparts.

  1. Training

When you visit your local gun show, you’ll also find tables set up by local firearms training experts who offer safety classes, tactical training, and licensing courses for pistol or concealed carry permits. These make great gifts for gun collectors who have an interest in self-defense, hunting, or like to travel.

Classes vary based on the instructor’s certifications and the training or licensing they’re offering. Ask about what the training entails, time frames, whether you’d need to schedule the gun owner at the time of purchase or if you’d be buying a gift certificate they can cash in when convenient. Some classes will also feature a practical skills portion, giving you the ability to anticipate a second part of the gift that will be much appreciated: ammunition.

  1. Range or Gun Club Memberships

Memberships are the gifts for gun collectors that keep on giving. Ranges give them a place to sight in their favorite guns, practice their skills, and enjoy their Second Amendment rights hands-on. Clubs and organizations support those same activities by bringing together gun owners to recreate the past, swap tips and tricks, or take collective action to lobby legislatures and other government officials to respect their constitutional rights. Look for clubs related to the collector’s interests for an impactful gift they can appreciate and reap the benefits of.

  1. Display Pieces

Items that help show off a favorite piece of a gun collection or its focus can be some of the most touching gifts for gun collectors. While this can include an actual gun related to their passion, whether it be a John Wayne replica Winchester or the same pistol John Wick uses when a pencil isn’t handy, it doesn’t have to be. Gun accessories that support a collection’s theme are often reasonably priced, whether they be frontier-themed memorabilia or militaria. You can even find shadow boxes and other display cases at gun shows to make a family heirloom a respectful part of your home’s decor.
